The BHS JROTC program every year holds a Marine Corps birthday cake-cutting ceremony in November.
The date of Nov. 10, 1775 is significant to Marines and their families because it’s the date that it was established. The birthday cake-cutting ceremony is a tradition symbolizing the passing of knowledge and experience from one generation to the next.
Usually the ceremony is held at both Brevard and Rosman high schools in their gyms. This year, cadets held the ceremony on Friday, Nov. 8, but only at Rosman due to Brevard having a prep rally.
