What’s that line down the hallway, and why are all those students rushing into the culinary arts room? It must be snack time at BHS!
From sodas and coffee to chips and brownies, two shops at BHS have you covered. And if you need school spirit wear or gear, the brand-new Blue Devil Depot is selling items such as hoodies, bibs and sunglasses.
Whitty’s Store
Last year, Jessica Whitmire, the culinary teacher here at BHS, started a shop in her classroom called Whitty’s Store that sells snacks and drinks.
Students and staff can get all kinds of yummy snacks and drinks such as canned sodas, mini bottles of lemonade, all sorts of chips, popcorn, cookies at times and Oreos for $1 for each item. Everything is pre-packaged and easy to grab.

The store is open from 1:30 to 3:30 during and after the school day and is in the Social Studies wing. Whitmire said she doesn’t want to have the store open during lunch hours because she can’t compete with the cafeteria, as school lunch is free and selling food could cause the school to lose federal funding.

Whitmire said the most popular items she sells would be Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, Oreos, Mountain Dew, Baja Blast and Dr. Pepper.
All of the money she gains at her store goes to the Culinary Arts program. “It does not go to me personally,” Whitmire said.
Blue Devil Depot and Coffee Shop
Leslie Taylor is an Occupational Course of Study teacher and she and her classes run the Coffee Shop and Blue Devil Depot in the media wing across from the library.
The coffee shop sells more than coffee, including brownies, lemonade, iced coffee and hot chocolate. Everything costs $1. The most popular items they sell are a mix of brownies, iced coffee and the lemonade.
The Coffee Shop is open from 1:30-1:40 p.m. because, like with Whitty’s Store, it cannot compete with the cafeteria.

The Blue Devil Depot, which opened this school year, sells spirit gear such as T-shirts, hoodies, baseball-style hats, lanyards, water bottles, sunglasses, pencils, stickers, stress balls and more. The newest item is the “game bib,” or blue-and-white-striped overalls often seen in student sections.
The depot is open during third and fourth blocks, and students and families can also shop online. OCS students will package and deliver items to customers.
You might wonder where all the money goes; Taylor says that it goes “back to the Occupational Course of Study program.”
