Brevard High DECA members recently competed in a DECA competition at Brevard College, joining over 200 students from across Western North Carolina.
The competition, which brought together high school students with a shared passion for business and marketing, proved to be a success for the Blue Devils, with several students earning medals for their outstanding performances.
Among the top achievers were:
Kia Emaus, who earned the highest score in the role-play event for Principles of Business.
Carter Powell, who achieved the highest score in the role-play event for Sports and Entertainment Marketing.
Jana Cornett, who placed in the top five overall in Apparel and Accessories.
Cole Cubbison, who finished in the top five in Sports and Entertainment Marketing.
Jack Friedman, who earned the highest score on the exam for Quick Service Restaurant Management.
This competition marked the first of the year for Brevard High’s DECA, and students were excited about the opportunity to network and challenge themselves. As Ayanna Carter shared, “My overall experience at this first step in competition was a pretty good one. It was nice to meet new people from other schools who have the same interest as me in DECA.”
Looking ahead, students are preparing for the state DECA Competition, and the top five finishers will have the chance to compete at the National DECA Competition in Orlando later this year.
As Sophia Miguel explained, “We just have our state competition, and then if you place at state, you go to Nationals.”
