Lady Devils soccer kicks off season with big win

The Lady Devils’ soccer season kicked off with a big 8-0 home win against East Henderson High on Feb. 24.

One highlight of the season opener against East Henderson was when Lila Laughridge, a sophomore center back, headed a corner kick into the goal to score the first goal of the game.

Later in the game, East Henderson’s goalie drew a yellow card due to getting a handball outside of the box. This led to Brevard getting a shot attempt off but unfortunately not scoring.

The star player of the game was Charlie Goodwin, a sophomore forward, who ended the game with five goals, allowing that to be her 10th of the season.

The team’s second game, against T.C. Roberson on Feb. 26, resulted in a 1-1 tie, and their third game, against A.C. Reynolds Monday, March 3, resulted in their first loss, 2-1. The Lady Devils lost 1-0 at West Henderson on March 5, but rebounded March 6 to defeat Chase 9-0 at home.

The team has a 2-2-1 overall record heading into its game Tuesday, March 11 at R-S Central, and has a 1-0 conference record.
