Patience Boyd is a sophomore and student athlete who is currently doing outdoor track at Brevard High. This year, she thinks she’ll have a good season; she’s been putting in a lot of work over the off-season and feels she has a good chance to go to the state championships this year.

Boyd started running track in middle school. After being inspired by her friends, she decided to give it a try and liked it a lot, so she continued to do it and now she loves it.

To mentally and physically prepare herself for a track meet, Boyd likes to listen to music and stretch as well as give herself a little speech to keep her nervous levels down.

Boyd runs the 400 meter dash as her main event and says the advice she would give to someone who wants to run it is: “Run as hard as you can the whole time; start strong and finish strong. It really is an enjoyable race and personally, I love the 400, so just pace yourself, but sprint as hard as you can.”

As a three-sport student athlete who also plays basketball and volleyball, Boyd balances her sports life and personal life by dedicating her time for sports to working out, going to practices and games or meets.

Her personal life is dedicated to handling her schoolwork. Outside of school, she is normally at home, and in her free time she’ll work on her running or whatever else she can work on.

Boyd claims that her friends are the most influential people for her in track.

“They inspire me and support me in every way, and I’m so influenced to become better and better each day in track because of them,” she said.
