Have you ever wondered what it was like for some of our teachers in high school? What sports they played or clubs they were a part of? What their prom was like?
Josh Galloway, our assistant principal and athletic director at Brevard High, joined the administrative team on Aug. 14, 2023.
He attended Rosman High and then Western Carolina University to get a master’s in school administration and a Bachelor of Science in education with a focus on physical education. He also played Division I football while at Western Carolina University, until the start of his junior year.
Principal Mick Galloway (no relation) coached football and basketball at Rosman High from 1994 to 2005. He coached Josh Galloway from seventh through 12th grade in football and basketball.
During Josh Galloway’s senior year, something unexpected happened.
“It was a Friday night basketball practice when the head football coach at Western asked to come watch (a football game),” Mick Galloway said. “I didn’t even know who the guy was.”
After 30 minutes, the coach offered Josh Galloway a full scholarship to play football.
“He went from being a gangly, clumsy kid to an elite Division I college football player,” Mick Galloway said.
His favorite memory while coaching Josh Galloway was driving the team down the mountain for a basketball game after he had eaten a big lunch that day. When they got to the bottom of the mountain; Josh Galloway had thrown up all over the bus. He went on to play and put up a double-double that game. The team would joke about this for the rest of the season.

Hailey Brinke, one of the BHS school counselors, also had great things to say about her colleague. She said she would “describe his personality to be like a cat’s,” and that he is a private person who leads himself professionally.
“He takes awhile to open up, but is very caring and passionate about supporting students,” she said.
Her favorite memory is of him coming into the counselors’ office playing random songs from tik-tok and dancing.
She mentions how well-rounded Josh Galloway is.
“He is a real estate agent, tech guru, used to be a very successful chef/culinary teacher and loves to travel and make aesthetically pleasing travel videos,” she said.
He also cares about the students at Brevard High. “He is a huge advocate for students and will do anything in his power to support them and make their high school experience the best possible!”
Josh Galloway was the class president, student body vice president and in the top 10 percent of his class at Rosman High. He was involved in theater while also playing football, basketball, baseball, golf and track. He was also awarded Co-Conference Player of the Year for basketball.
When asked his favorite memory of high school, he said his senior trip to Washington, D.C., New York City and Baltimore.
“It was the first time I had been anywhere besides Asheville,” he said.
For his senior prom, he decided to go last-minute with a friend. It was held at Glen Cannon Country Club near Pisgah Forest. He got the wrong jacket size because when he and his brother went to rent a tux for prom, they switched the sizes by accident.
After his senior year, for graduation, he and seven other friends went to Panama City for a week. His favorite memory from that trip was riding up and down the strip in his friend’s car.
When asked what his advice is for students at Brevard High, he said, “It doesn’t matter at the end of the day.”
