The Brevard High varsity soccer team is turning heads across Western North Carolina this season, with an impressive 13-4 record that has them leading the Mountain Eight 4A/5A conference.

“I’m proud of my boys and seeing how much they have grown and improved, and am honored to be on a team with such good skill and good players,” player Sam Mcbee said.

On Oct. 13, the team faced North Henderson High in an intense, eventful home soccer match that went into overtime. Brevard won 3-1, for the team’s 11th straight win. Starters Alan Sanchez and Timothy Jordan were injured, however, and had to leave the game.

BHS then defeated Smoky Mountain 2-0 on Oct. 15, leaving them undefeated in conference play.

With only three games left in the regular season, many players are thinking ahead to the state playoffs.

“I think as a team if we work together and commit to it, we have a lot of potential in winning state, especially since we have a good record and good players that are compatible with each other,” said Andres Melgarejo. “I really do believe we have a chance in winning state.”
