As fall comes to an end, many sports teams are wrapping up their seasons. Whether they went undefeated, dominated their conferences or are headed to the playoffs, all of BHS’s teams are ending with impressive results.
Cross country
Update: Junior Keaton Campbell won the 4A Cross Country State Championship, and Andrew Gorman placed 4th. The men’s team came in second out of 18 teams and was honored as the state championship runner-up. Men’s team members are Campbell, Gorman, Connor Wood, Jacob Grosvener, Hayes Bryson, Parker Laughridge and Wyatt Rhodes. The team is led by Head Coach Will Lindsey. The women’s team finished seventh of 17 teams. Members are Veronica Jacques, who led the team and placed 19th of 138 runners, Maddie Galloway, Kylie Campbell, Cora Powell, Lila Laughridge, Paige Dinsdale, and Marlee Owenby. The men’s and women’s cross country teams have had an outstanding season and will compete Friday afternoon, Oct. 31 at the 4A state championships in Kernervsille. Both teams won their 4A regional meets and came in second at the 4A/5A combined conference championships.
Junior Keaton Campbell continues to dominate the men’s races, winning the conference and regional meets and now a favorite to be crowned 4A state champion.
Men’s soccer
The men’s varsity soccer team was undefeated in the Mountain Eight 4A/5A conference until its last regular-season game, losing 2-1 to Pisgah High Oct. 28 on the road. The team finished conference play with a 13-1 record and a 15-5 overall record.
The team had a rocky start to the season, losing four of its first five games, but then made an impressive run to the playoffs with only one loss and even gained redemption against rival Hendersonville Bearcats with a score of 3-2. The game was neck and neck and Brevard won by one point.
The team begins the playoffs on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
Women’s golf
The women’s golf team had two regional qualifiers. Senior Olivia Hankey and junior Shamira Mujica represented Brevard at the NCHSAA Regionals at Pilot Mountain. Hankey, who made the all-conference team, said all of the player had a good season.
Football
Varsity football kept its undefeated streak alive Friday, Oct. 31, defeating Pisgah High 36-30 in double overtime at home during Senior Night.
On Oct. 24, the team defeated Tuscola 36-3 on the road. The team finished the regular season with a 10-0 record and a 7-0 Mountain Eight 4A/5A conference record.
Volleyball
The women’s varsity volleyball team also had a strong and steady season, making it to the third round of the playoffs before losing to Lake Norman Charter and ending with an overall conference record of 10-4 and an overall record of 20-11.
Tennis
The women’s tennis team ended the season with an outstanding record, making it to the fourth round of the NCHSAA Team Duals before falling to Lake Norman Charter.
Freshman Sophie Owen had a historic debut, according to the Blue & White Weekly newsletter, reaching the semifinals of the NCHSAA 4A Individual State Championships.
