BHS junior Keaton Campbell won the 4A Cross Country State Championship Friday, Oct. 31 in Kernersville.

Campbell easily led the race from start to finish and posted a time of 16:00.09. He also received the sportsmanship award.

Andrew Gorman placed 4th, and BHS was the only team with two runners in the top 5. There were 143 finishers in the race.

The men’s team came in second out of 18 teams and was honored as the state championship runner-up. Men’s team members are Campbell, Gorman, Connor Wood, Jacob Grosvener, Hayes Bryson, Parker Laughridge and Wyatt Rhodes. The team is led by Head Coach Will Lindsey.

The women’s team also had an impressive day, finishing seventh of 17 teams, with several individual personal-best times.

Women’s team members are Veronica Jacques, who led the team and placed 19th of 138 runners, Maddie Galloway, Kylie Campbell, Cora Powell, Lila Laughridge, Paige Dinsdale, and Marlee Owenby. The team is led by Head Coach Lauren Udwari.

Sophomore Veronica Jacques led the Brevard High team at the 4A Cross Country State Championship meet Oct. 31 in Kernersville, finishing 19th out of 138 runners.
