After 31 years in education, serving in numerous roles, Brevard High Principal Mick Galloway will retire Feb. 28.

Galloway announced his retirement to staff members during their monthly meeting Monday, then emailed the student body with the news.

“The past 14 years at Brevard High School have been the most rewarding and fulfilling of my career,” he said in the email to students.

“This school is made special by the incredible students and staff who are here each and every day. As bittersweet as this moment is for me, I want you to know how truly special it has been to serve as your principal.

“Brevard High School is a remarkable place, and I will always cherish my time here with you.”

While Galloway will be stepping away from his position at BHS, he plans to continue working in the community.

His statement is below:

“This afternoon I submitted my retirement letter to Dr. Fletcher, with my retirement effective Feb. 28, 2026.

“I am beyond blessed to have spent the last 31 years serving Transylvania County Schools as a teacher, coach, athletic director, assistant principal and principal. What began as a career quickly became a calling, and I am deeply grateful for the journey.

“The relationships built with students, staff, families and community members are what I will cherish most. Being able to work in the same school system I grew up in, while also raising my own family here, has been an incredible gift to me and my family.

“This community shaped me, supported me, and allowed me to give back to a system that has shaped my life from the time I entered the doors of Rosman Elementary as a kindergartner in 1977.

“I owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to the colleagues who became lifelong friends, the mentors who guided me, and the students who inspired me daily. In every role I was fortunate enough to serve reinforced my belief in the power of public education and the strength of Transylvania County Schools.

“As I close this chapter, I do so with a full heart and lasting appreciation. Thank you for the trust, the support, and the opportunity to serve such a remarkable school system. Transylvania County Schools will always be a part of who I am.

“Go Big Blue!!”
