With only two more races remaining in the spring season, Coach Charisma Arbogast said the Brevard High mountain bike team has had a great past month and an amazing first season.

On March 29, the team raced in Mayodan and finished 7th. Charlie Faulkner won his second JV3 race in a row, securing the first seed call-up for the next race.

Sam Overton raced consistently in second position, but crashed in the final rock garden. He finished in 9th place and won the King of the Mountain for the race.

Abigail Donnelly and Jack Barlow finished 8th in their respective categories and finished out the scoring unit for the team.

Arbogast said the technical terrain at Mayodan played to the athletes’ advantage, and Kell Arbogast, John Donnelly, Benji Ellis and Elliot Gaura all had strong races as well.

On April 12, racing at Dark Mountain, Faulkner won his third race in a row and secured the leader’s jersey for the race series. Barlow raced hard, securing the 5th step on the podium. It was Barlow’s first time on the podium as a Varsity racer, impressive as a sophomore.

Despite numerous injuries, wrecks and mechanicals, the team finished 13th for the weekend. The athletes will race again on April 26 in Rock Hill, S.C., the final race of the regular season.

The North Carolina state championship race will be held May 10 in Danville, Va.
