The Brevard High men’s varsity tennis team recently showed everyone they are the team to beat.
Team members had a huge performance at the pre-regional tournament April 20, with athletes Christian Girolamo, Griffin Banks, Luca Gugino, Braden Boswell and Luke McLauchlin making it to the 4A West Regional tournament.
Girolamo won his match against a player from R-S Central 6-3, 6-2. McLauchlin also won his match, finishing in only 30 minutes, and the doubles matches also went really well.
The team is excited for regionals. After losing in the first round last season, they want to make a comeback and hopefully get to the second and third rounds this season.
The team then took care of business against Pisgah, walking away with an 8-1 win. That performance keeps them locked into second place in the conference with an 8-4 overall record.
Girolamo said the team is playing with a lot of confidence right now and is ready for regionals. The tournament will be held Friday and Saturday, May 1-2 at Brevard College.
