The Brevard High men’s varsity basketball team has been putting in the hard work this preseason to evolve and grow.
With the seniors of the 2025-26 season gone, the team has few returning varsity players, which pushes former junior varsity players to fill their shoes.
As the season opener gets closer, Coach Rusty Smith has an idea of which players will make a big contribution to the varsity team this season.
He noted returning players such as juniors Rob Mueller and Tyekavian Griffin, along with “a large collection of JV players that did well last year that will have to take a big step up to the varsity level.”
Some JV players are excited to step into their new roles as varsity players.
“Since freshman year, I’ve improved. My goals have changed from just making varsity to performing on varsity,” said junior Caleb Hamilton.
For Mueller, his mother has been his inspiration to improve on the court.
“My motivation is my mom because I love my mom, and she’s been there for me my whole life,” he said.
